Frequently asked questions
When is the 2027 Women's World Cup?
Brazil hosts the tournament from 24 June to 25 July 2027. It's the first Women's World Cup played in South America.
How many teams are playing?
32 teams, split into eight groups of four. The top two in each group reach the round of 16, followed by the quarter-finals, semi-finals, the bronze final and the final.
When is the group draw?
The group stage draw is set for 11 December 2026. Until then, our simulator draws the groups at random, seeded by world ranking, with Brazil in Group A as hosts.
Have the Matildas qualified?
Yes. Australia booked their place in March 2026 at the Women's Asian Cup, which they hosted, and went on to reach the final.
How does the simulator pick the winners?
Every team gets a rating from FIFA's women's world rankings, nudged up or down for recent form. Each match is then played out with a bit of luck thrown in, so upsets happen. Run it again and you'll get a different tournament.
How it works
We've used FIFA's latest women's world rankings and recent form to give every team a rating. Some teams are still fighting to qualify, so we've made a few educated guesses. The groups are randomly drawn until the official draw takes place.
Group matches follow tournament tie-break rules. Knockout games that finish level go to extra time, then penalties. And because they're playing at home, Brazil get a little boost. Sorry, everyone else.
