State of origin

For a bit of fun, we also ranked each region and city across Australia and New Zealand. And based on the results, Australian football clubs are lagging behind their Kiwi cousins.

State of Origin

Sorry Kiwis, for the Best Crest awards, we’re including you as a state.  The good news is, that the Kiwis took the top spot! Of course, the rankings were influenced by how many teams were in each state, which explains why Tasmania, with its solitary team, also shone brightly. South Australia’s trio of teams just nudged past NSW’s hefty lineup of 18. Following close behind were the Sandgropers and the ACT. Over in Victoria, their 15 teams managed a solid score of 54.48%, while Queensland rounded out the eight on 46.07%.

City vs City

When we compared football crest designs from cities across Australia and New Zealand, it’s not surprising that cities with fewer teams often scored highest, with the top three cities all just having single clubs. Meanwhile, cities juggling multiple teams were faced with the tougher task of maintaining high design standards across the board.

Wellington with their single team took out top spot  with an impressive 91.43%. Also  with one team, Hobart came in second , while Gosford, home to the mighty Mariners came in third. Next in line with two teams was Auckland, proving that the Kiwis know a thing or two about branding.

Perth and Adelaide, each with three teams, shared the points. While Sydney, with a massive 15 teams, earned a respectable score of 60.57%. Canberra came in next just ahead of Melbourne who also had the unenviable task of juggling 14 teams, followed hot on their heels by Newcastle.

Brisbane, with five teams, narrowly outperformed their Queensland neighbours, the Gold Coast. While Fremantle and Townsville rounded out the bottom two places.
